About The Cyber Scene—Then and Now

The Cyber Scene began in 1997 as a chronicle of the people, companies, events, and culture emerging around New York’s Silicon Alley. What started as an email newsletter eventually followed the community beyond New York—and, in many cases, beyond the original dot-com era itself.

This site now serves primarily as an archive of that time: thousands of dispatches capturing who was in the room, what people were building, and what the early internet community felt like while we were living through it.

But an archive doesn’t have to be frozen.

From time to time, I may add something new: a memory prompted by an anniversary, a story from the archive that deserves another look, an observation about how community and technology have changed, or an account of the people and gatherings bringing those ideas to life today.

There will be no formal publishing schedule and no attempt to recreate The Cyber Scene exactly as it was. Consider this an open door -- between then and now.
